Now it has stopped snowing it is time to start thinking of cricket again (apart from Tommy, who never stops thinking of cricket). The season starts in less than five weeks! Practice is well underway at Puddletown Middle School: 6-7.30pm for youth, 7.30-9pm for adults. We have had some excellent sessions so far under the expert eye of Tommy, Rich and Dave Lee and everyone is encouraged to come along.
The first game of the season is on Friday 13th April against Ely CC on tour from Cambridgeshire and should be a fun way to start proceedings. From then on it is non-stop cricket. In the National Village KO Cup we have drawn Shrewton (Wilts), who will be coming to us on Sunday 29th April. They look like a good side, but we have the inside info on them from Cattistock who played them in a nail-biter last year. We are just finalising the last few friendly games and the full fixture list will be published in the next few weeks.
In other news for the club, we have submitted a grant application from the ECB to build a new social decking area that will significantly smarten up the front of the pavilion. The application has made it past the first (and trickiest) hurdle of getting DCB approval and is now with the ECB who will hopefully give us the thumbs up (and dosh)! Many thanks must go to Tommy, Sue, Mark and Rich for putting this application together and making it happen. We are also grateful to the Dorset Cricket Board for their helpful advice.
Last but not least, we would like to get more women playing cricket at CDCC. Therefore, we have taken the plunge and registered with the Dorset Women and Girls Softball Cricket. The will entail some training sessions and then games on softball cricket festival days around the county. So, it is time to ask the women in your lives if they’d like to get involved and join in with this exciting new step for the club!
And don’t forget – quiz night this Friday at the club. A startling insight into the trivia and useless facts held in the caverns of quizmaster Sid’s mind….
See you all there – JP
